My Poppy at 7 weeks.
Hello, I am Kathryn and I have been dog grooming for 9 years, having trained for two years (City & Guilds) at Grimsby Institute in Lincolnshire. I groomed from my home in Yorkshire and I absolutely loved it. I went from grooming just a few dogs to, in a matter of weeks, having a full diary. With my children having flown the nest to London, I moved back to Gloucestershire to be near my family and not being able to groom from home, I decided to go mobile.
I am trained to City & Guilds Level 3. I am always keen to learn new skills/techniques and to keep abreast of the industry and latest products. I am a member of the BDGA (British Dog Grooming Association) and hold a First Aid for Pets Certificate. I attend workshops and seminars as they are good for keeping up to date with the latest trends and techniques but this also goes towards the Pet Industry Federation's Quality Assurance Standards which has been put in place to show that Groomers are fully trained and of a suitable standard.
It is advantageous for the groomer to be able to 'read' the dog (body language) and this was something covered in my animal behaviour module as part of my training. Equally dogs are so in tune with us humans and they can read us too and for me this is what makes the bond so special.
